Slovakia Eyes Long-Term Gas Deal with Azerbaijan to Cut Reliance on Russia

Slovakia is actively pursuing energy independence by seeking to secure a long-term natural gas supply from Azerbaijan. As one of the final significant importers of Russian gas within the European Union, Bratislava recognizes the strategic imperative to diversify its energy portfolio. Vice Prime Minister Tomáš Taraba's announcement of ongoing negotiations for a contract of at least 10 years signals a clear commitment to this goal.

The primary challenge lies in establishing the necessary transport infrastructure to bring Azerbaijani gas to Central Europe. However, the willingness of both sides to explore available pipeline options demonstrates a shared commitment to overcoming logistical hurdles.
