Small plane lands on its belly at Roskilde Airport after landing-gear failure

A small sports plane carrying a pilot and two passengers came down on its belly at Roskilde Airport after one landing wheel failed to deploy properly. No one was injured.

The aircraft was in the air when the pilot received an indication at about 1 p.m. that the landing gear had not come down and locked into place. The plane circled for a while, and people on the ground confirmed that one of the wheels appeared to be malfunctioning.

Police, firefighters and an ambulance went to the airport to prepare for the landing. The pilot ultimately managed to bring the aircraft down safely. “They are all out of the plane again,” police spokesman Thomas Kristensen said shortly after 2 p.m.

Images from the scene showed the aircraft resting on its right wheel and left wing, with the left wheel apparently not fully extended. Roskilde Airport serves as a relief airport for Copenhagen Airport and is used by private aircraft, helicopters, flight schools, businesses and the military.

Police have concluded their part of the case. Denmark’s Accident Investigation Board will investigate what went wrong with the aircraft and why the incident occurred.
