Small plane, state police helicopter collide in midair over Pennsylvania

A midair collision between a small plane and a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter occurred Wednesday evening in central Pennsylvania, authorities reported. The incident took place near Carlisle around 7:50 p.m. ET, involving a Cessna 150 aircraft and a Bell 407 helicopter.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the details of the crash. Two individuals were aboard the state police helicopter. The number of people on board the Cessna 150 was not immediately clear. As of Wednesday night, there were no immediate reports regarding injuries or fatalities resulting from the collision.

First responders were dispatched to the scene, with images from local affiliate WHP-TV showing wreckage from both aircraft. The crash occurred in the vicinity of Carlisle Airport. Samantha Krepps, a spokesperson for Cumberland County, confirmed the helicopter's affiliation with the Pennsylvania State Police.

Governor Josh Shapiro stated on social media that he had been briefed on the situation and was en route to the scene. He expressed his prayers and urged fellow Pennsylvanians to join him. The National Transportation Safety Board is set to lead the investigation into the cause of the crash, with assistance from the FAA. Carlisle is located approximately 120 miles west of Philadelphia.
