SNS leader Vucevic says elections this autumn

Milos Vucevic, leader of Serbia's ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), announced Friday that the country will hold presidential and parliamentary elections this autumn. The announcement confirms expectations that the elections would take place later this year.

Vucevic, speaking to Kompas weekly as reported by the SNS portal, stated, "Parliamentary and presidential elections are indisputably ahead of us." He referenced President Aleksandar Vucic's previous remarks about not continuing in his post for much longer.

While candidates have not yet been discussed, Vucevic stressed that the SNS nominee must be "worthy of the nomination and capable of winning." He added that the chosen individual should be someone citizens can support, regardless of party affiliation or gender, prioritizing qualifications, responsibility, and electability.

Vucevic also acknowledged that securing victory is not a foregone conclusion, stating that he does not believe an SNS election win is guaranteed. Discussions regarding political coalitions will also be a key part of the pre-election process.

Our candidate will be someone worthy of the nomination and capable of winning, someone the citizens can support, regardless of whether they are a member of any political party and regardless of whether they are male or female. The most important thing is that it is a qualified and responsible person worthy of holding the office and, of course, someone who can win.
