Soccer Stars Lewandowski and Griezmann Set for MLS Debuts Amidst League Buzz

Major League Soccer is poised for a significant influx of star power as Robert Lewandowski and Antoine Griezmann prepare for their highly anticipated debuts. Lewandowski arrived at Chicago Fire on June 29, while Griezmann was announced by Orlando City on March 24, with both players set to take the field on Wednesday, July 22.

Griezmann, 35, could make his first appearance for the Florida club in an away match against the San Jose Earthquakes. After concluding his long tenure with Atlético Madrid, the 2018 World Cup winner with France has already played in a friendly for Orlando City, scoring in a 6-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Orlando City, currently 13th in the Eastern Conference under coach Martín Perelman, desperately needs Griezmann's impact to improve its standing after a difficult start to the season.

Lewandowski's debut with the Chicago Fire was initially scheduled for Thursday, July 16, but was postponed due to poor air quality in Chicago stemming from wildfires in Canada. The Polish striker, who turns 38 in August, has been diligently preparing for his first experience outside European football. His new coach, Gregg Berhalter, praised Lewandowski's "tremendous work ethic," noting his demanding presence in training and extra work sessions, which Berhalter attributes to his prolific goal-scoring record over the past 15 years.

Lewandowski's expected debut will take place at Soldier Field against Inter Miami, Lionel Messi's home stadium. However, Messi himself will not be present to welcome Lewandowski to the league. The Argentine captain returned to his native Rosario to rest with his family following his team's loss in the 2026 World Cup final.
