SoftBank Hawks rookie Maeda earns 11th straight win

SoftBank Hawks' 21-year-old pitching prodigy, Yudai Maeda, continues to impress, securing his 11th consecutive win of the season with a dominant 7-inning, no-run performance against the Orix Buffaloes. This victory brings the Hawks closer to clinching the regular season title, with their magic number now at 20.

Maeda's outing was not without early drama. He struggled with control in the first inning, allowing three hits and a walk. However, he skillfully navigated the bases-loaded jam with the help of a crucial double play, preventing any runs from scoring. He then settled in, allowing only one more hit over the next six innings, throwing 103 pitches in total.

The Hawks' bullpen, featuring Darwinzon Hernandez and closer Kazuki Sugiyama, each pitched a scoreless inning to secure the win. Maeda's impressive performance lowered his season ERA to 1.82. He has recorded 8 quality starts in his 15 appearances this season and remains undefeated.

Maeda's talent was previously showcased when he was the starting pitcher for Japan in the 2023 U18 World Cup final, delivering a strong performance against Taiwan to help Japan secure its first U18 championship. He was the top draft pick for the SoftBank Hawks that year.
