Sokoto LG chairman quits APC, resigns from office

Isa Kalanjeni, the Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Nigeria's Sokoto State, has resigned from both his leadership position and the All Progressives Congress (APC) party. The dual resignations were communicated through two separate letters, made available to journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday.

I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.

In a letter dated May 5, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward, Kalanjeni announced his immediate resignation from the party, citing "purely personal reasons." He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have been part of the APC.

This decision is borne out of purely personal reasons. I appreciate the opportunity given to me to be part of the party.

A subsequent letter, dated July 7, 2026, was sent to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. In this correspondence, Kalanjeni formally announced his resignation as the elected Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, effective immediately. He attributed this "difficult decision" to "unavoidable administrative challenges" that prevented him from fulfilling his responsibilities to the expected high standard.

Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, effective immediately from today.

Kalanjeni conveyed his gratitude to the electorate, the council's legislative arm, and the entire staff for the privilege of serving the people of Tangaza. He wished the incoming leadership continued success. As of the time of reporting, neither the Sokoto State Government nor the state chapter of the APC had issued any official statements regarding Kalanjeni's resignations.
