Sokoto Pledges Support for More ICAN Membership

Sokoto State is committed to bolstering its accounting profession by encouraging more citizens to join the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). Deputy Accountant-General Alhaji Junaidu Usman affirmed the state government's dedication to this goal, emphasizing the critical role professional accountants play in enhancing public financial management.

By the grace of Allah, Governor Ahmed Aliyu will do everything possible to ensure that more people from Sokoto State are enrolled as members of ICAN. We believe professional accountants are critical to promoting transparency, accountability and effective service delivery.

Usman highlighted that Governor Ahmed Aliyu's administration will actively support individuals seeking ICAN membership. He stressed that professional accountants are essential for promoting transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery within the state. The Deputy Accountant-General also viewed the "Award of Excellence" he received as a call to continue serving with integrity and upholding high standards in managing public resources.

This recognition is a motivation for me to do more. It is a reminder that we must continue to uphold the highest standards of accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.

The state government sees professional competence among accountants as vital for the successful execution of its Nine-Point Smart Agenda. Young accountants are urged to leverage government support to obtain professional qualifications. The event also marked the inauguration of the new executive committee for the ICAN Sokoto and District Society, with Mr. Oluwakayode Adeboye becoming the seventh Chairman.
