Soldiers from Region 11 to help secure BARMM polls

Philippine Army troops are being mobilized to ensure the security of the upcoming Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, marking a significant step in the region's political development.

Soldiers from the 28th Infantry Battalion, under the Army's 10th Infantry Division, are set for deployment across various municipalities within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Their mission is to bolster the joint election security operations coordinated by the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and the Army's 6th Infantry Division.

Major Gen. Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th ID, confirmed that the deployed troops will operate under the guidance of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the 6th Infantry Division. The 10th ID, part of the Eastern Mindanao Command, is headquartered in Mawab, Davao de Oro, while the 6th ID, under the Western Mindanao Command, covers key areas within BARMM.

The security preparations are crucial for the first-ever parliamentary elections in the autonomous region, scheduled for September 14. The 6th ID's 601st and 602nd Infantry Brigades, with units in Cotabato and Maguindanao provinces, will be at the forefront of these peacekeeping activities. Additionally, personnel from the Navy's 1st Marine Brigade will secure specific areas in Maguindanao del Norte and Cotabato City.

BARMM encompasses the provinces of Maguindanao de Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi, along with the cities of Lamitan, Marawi, and Cotabato, which hosts the regional capitol. The joint efforts aim to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process for the region's residents.
