Soldiers kill terrorists, arrest collaborators in Borno, Yobe operations

Troops involved in Operation HADIN KAI have intensified their clearance operations across the North-East region of Nigeria, achieving significant successes in combating terrorism.

In Borno State, operations conducted between May 15 and May 21 led to the neutralization of at least two terrorists in the Gwoza Local Government Area during a fierce engagement. Additionally, troops, in collaboration with local hunters, clamped down on insurgent logistics at Kwayar Kusar Market, arresting four suspected cattle rustlers and collaborators found with six cows intended for illicit sale on behalf of the insurgents.

The sustained military pressure has continued to force terrorists and their family members to surrender. On May 17, an adult male family member of a terrorist escaped from the Kwatara enclave in the Mandara Mountains and surrendered to troops. Subsequently, on May 19, two adult females and seven minors surrendered in Dikwa LGA, with another woman also surrendering in Dikwa town on the same day.

Further operations included the arrest of a female collaborator accused of smuggling food and hijabs to her son, a notorious terrorist commander, in Kukawa LGA. A 20-year-old suspect also surrendered in Nganzai LGA, handing over an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a mobile phone. Troops also arrested a suspected logistics supplier at a Bama checkpoint with food items and other materials allegedly meant for insurgents.

In neighboring Yobe State, troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition abandoned by fleeing terrorists, indicating the ongoing effectiveness of the military's counter-insurgency efforts.
