Sole Fire Fatality Near Omiš Buried in Hometown

Dragana Antešević, 34, was laid to rest in her hometown of Kotor Varoš, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, after perishing in a devastating fire near Omiš, Croatia. She was the only person to die in the incident, which also left eight others with life-threatening injuries.

Antešević had come to Croatia for seasonal work, accompanied by her younger sister, Nikolina, who miraculously survived the inferno. The sisters were employed at Vila Charlotte near Omiš, Nikolina working reception and Dragana as a maid. Nikolina had worked there for several seasons and had encouraged Dragana to join her this summer.

The fire erupted on the evening of August 13th. Initially, the sisters and their colleague did not perceive the danger as immediate, having seen fires in the area before. However, the situation rapidly deteriorated. Power failed, guests began to evacuate, and panic set in. They were alerted to the mandatory evacuation by a neighbor.

In a moment of confusion, they returned to their rooms for their luggage before attempting to flee. Their escape route became a trap as the fire engulfed their car shortly after they joined the main road. Nikolina managed to keep the engine running momentarily but was overwhelmed by the intense heat and smoke. Dragana's body was later found in the Stanići area.
