Soludo’s Blind and Bright Spots

Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo began his term as Governor of Anambra State in 2022, carrying an impressive resume and widespread public support. Many Nigerians, particularly from the South-East, were eager for his success, viewing him as a potential scholar-statesman.

Soludo's academic credentials include a First-Class degree in Economics, a doctorate in Econometrics and Monetary Economics, and extensive postdoctoral research. He has held fellowships at prestigious institutions such as the Brookings Institution, Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, the International Monetary Fund, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. His prior role as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria further solidified his reputation. During his leadership, he implemented a banking consolidation program that significantly transformed Nigeria's financial sector, enhancing institutional resilience and restoring confidence.

Even before assuming office as governor, Soludo was seen as a benchmark for leadership. An example of this was the creation of "Soludometer," a digital platform developed by a civic activist group called AdvoKC. This independent initiative was designed to monitor and evaluate the campaign commitments of Soludo, then governor-elect of Anambra State. The existence of such a project underscored the high expectations placed upon him, moving beyond conventional governance to a redefined standard of leadership.
