Somos México demands immediate release of Ruffo Appel, calls arrest arbitrary and illegal

The political party Somos México has vehemently denounced the arrest of former Baja California governor Ernesto Ruffo Appel, labeling it "arbitrary and illegal." The party, a member of Ruffo Appel's Consultative Council, is demanding his immediate release.

Somos México asserts that Ruffo Appel has already provided clear explanations to authorities and the media regarding the "irrational and inconsistent" accusations. They highlight that the company in which Ruffo Appel is a partner is officially endorsed by customs, the SAT (Tax Administration Service), and the Secretariat of Energy. The party emphasizes that Ruffo Appel has publicly stated the company's primary activity involves customs procedures for products introduced into Mexico, working directly with the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), which certifies such goods.

The party further criticizes the Attorney General's office, led by Ernestina Godoy, for targeting Ruffo Appel while allegedly ignoring "glaring evidence of the biggest tax fraud in history" and the "illegal trafficking of fuel perpetrated by federal authorities, including the Secretariat of the Navy." Somos México suggests that Ruffo Appel's detention serves as a "smokescreen" to divert public attention from recent scandals involving recorded conversations of Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar.
