Son Heung-min scores first league goal for LAFC in rivalry match after World Cup

Son Heung-min finally broke his league scoring duck for LAFC, netting his first regular-season goal in a decisive match against rivals LA Galaxy. The South Korean star found the back of the net in the 16th round of the Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season, held at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. This goal was a significant moment, coming in his first game back with the club following the World Cup.

Playing as the lone striker, Son orchestrated a play by dribbling into the center from the right flank, passing to Mark Delgado, and then receiving the ball back to fire a right-footed shot into the net. This crucial goal extended LAFC's lead to 3-0, ultimately securing a comfortable victory for the team. The win marked LAFC's second consecutive league victory, placing them third in the Western Conference with 27 points from eight wins, three draws, and five losses.

This strike is Son's first in the MLS regular season for the current campaign. Prior to this, he had scored two goals in the CONCACAF Champions Cup but had registered nine assists in the league since its opening in February. He also remained scoreless during South Korea's three group stage matches in the World Cup. After the World Cup break, Son was substituted out in the 75th minute for Tyler Boyd, having made his mark on the game.
