Sources: Bolojan allies prepare to remove PNL dissenters from parliamentary posts

The internal struggle in Romania's National Liberal Party is moving into Parliament, where lawmakers aligned with party leader Ilie Bolojan are preparing to remove several of his critics from senior posts, according to political sources cited by Adevărul.

The planned changes would affect leadership positions in parliamentary committees and Romania's representation in international parliamentary bodies. The decisions still require votes within the PNL parliamentary groups.

Among those reportedly targeted are Nicoleta Pauliuc, chair of the Senate Defense Committee, and Lucian Bode, chair of the Chamber of Deputies' Transport and Infrastructure Committee. Andrei Baciu, deputy chair of the Chamber's Defense Committee, and Ciprian Pandea, secretary of the Budget, Finance and Banking Committee, are also listed.

The proposed reshuffle would extend to international roles. Alina Gorghiu could lose her seat on Romania's delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and her deputy chairmanship of the Chamber's Legal Committee. Ionuț Stroe could be replaced as chair of Romania's delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

All of the lawmakers named belong to the group that challenged Bolojan in recent months. Several also voted to support a government proposed by Adrian Veștea, despite the party leadership's position. That cabinet failed to secure the votes needed for investiture in June, intensifying the dispute.

The conflict later reached court. In July, the Bucharest Tribunal suspended decisions adopted at the PNL Congress on June 21, along with several party leadership decisions, after 18 anti-Bolojan liberals filed a case. The ruling is enforceable but can be appealed. The parliamentary changes now being prepared mark another stage in the confrontation between the two factions.
