Sources on S's negative trend: 'The decline is expected'

New opinion polls indicate a downward trend for Sweden's Social Democrats (S), with their support levels dipping and the distance between them and the opposition parties shrinking. The latest measurements show the party at around 30.3 percent, a figure not seen since the 2022 election, and a continued decline from earlier this year.

Many measurements are coming now. Our election campaign is going according to plan and now we are primarily out meeting voters to an extent never seen before. What we are getting back is that very many are disappointed with the Tidö parties.

Sources within the Social Democrats acknowledge this dip, describing it as an anticipated development. Their analysis suggests the party is losing some support on the left to the Left Party (V) and the Green Party (MP). This is seen as a consequence of the party's strategic focus on appealing to more right-leaning, undecided voters, a group they deem crucial for electoral success. The party is reportedly willing to accept some losses on the left to win over these centrist voters, who may prefer Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson over the current premier, Ulf Kristersson.

We focus on the job that needs to be done. There are 18 days left now to have as many conversations as possible. We must be clear that we think the Tidö parties have gone too far. A different government is needed to get a new direction, so that we can address the societal problems and not least get the country's economy in order.

Party Secretary Tobias Baudin, currently campaigning across Jämtland, stated that the party is focused on its work and meeting voters. He noted that many people express disappointment with the current government, known as the Tidö parties. Baudin emphasized the remaining 18 days of the campaign are dedicated to extensive dialogue with the electorate, aiming to clearly articulate the need for a change in government to address societal problems and improve the national economy.

However, a potential concern within the Social Democrats' strategy is the maneuvering of Christian Democrat leader Ebba Busch. Her recent focus on healthcare issues and hints of potential cooperation with the Social Democrats could, according to one source, appeal to the same centrist voters the S party is targeting. There is also an acknowledgment that some voters may return to the Center Party (C) as its leader has indicated support for Andersson as prime minister.

The fear is that the KD leader, with her talk of S cooperation and focus on healthcare issues, could capture the uncertain centrist voters right from under S's nose.
