South Africa edge high-scoring T20 to end Namibia jinx

Lhuan-dre Pretorius struck his maiden Twenty20 International century with 101 from 53 balls, helping South Africa beat Namibia by 11 runs in Windhoek and reach the Tri-Series final against Zimbabwe.

South Africa, sent in to bat, amassed 228 for four after Pretorius and Connor Esterhuizen put on 156 from 69 deliveries. Esterhuizen made 88 from 40 balls, and both openers hit eight sixes on a flat wicket.

Namibia stayed in contention for much of its reply, but lost momentum late and finished on 217 for three in its 20 overs. Spinner Jan Balt was the only Namibian bowler to emerge relatively unscathed, taking two wickets for 31 runs in four overs.

The result ended Namibia’s run of two previous T20 victories over its neighbours. Those wins had come against depleted South African teams, but Namibia could not repeat them against this side.
