South Jakarta Towes Civil Servants' Motorcycles for Violating Public Transport Rule

Jakarta Selatan city officials towed motorcycles belonging to civil servants who violated a mandatory public transport rule on Wednesdays. The measure aims to enforce a governor's instruction to reduce pollution and traffic congestion by encouraging public transport use. Officials recorded the violations and stated the towed motorcycles remained within the city hall premises, serving as a warning.

"Those still bringing private vehicles, we will not allow them to enter, and we will record them. Hopefully, with this emphasis, they will realize the rules that are still in effect and must be followed properly," said Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency, Bernad Octavianus. He explained that the towed motorcycles were not taken elsewhere but remained within the South Jakarta Mayor's office complex.

The crackdown follows Governor's Instruction Number 6 of 2025, which mandates civil servants in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to use public transportation every Wednesday for commuting and official travel. The instruction aims to curb pollution and traffic jams.

"Hopefully, the employees can carry out what has been directed by our leaders, both at the DKI Jakarta Provincial level and at the Mayor's level," Bernad added. The South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency is supporting the initiative to ensure employees comply with the policy and set a good example for the public.
