South Korea Appoints Interim Coach for National Football Team Amidst Election Committee Shake-up

The Korea Football Association (KFA) has opted for an interim head coach to manage the men's national football team for the remaining six "A-match" fixtures of the year. This decision, confirmed during the KFA's sixth board meeting on Tuesday, means a permanent head coach will not be appointed until January next year, in time to lead the squad for the AFC Asian Cup. The move comes after the previous head coach, Hong Myung-bo, resigned following the team's failure to advance past the group stage in the World Cup qualifiers. The KFA aims to use the interim period to prepare for the crucial Asian Cup tournament. In addition to the coaching decision, the board also approved the formation of an election committee for the upcoming KFA presidential race. Notably, this committee will consist entirely of external experts from fields such as academia, law, and media, adhering to a requirement for at least two-thirds of its members to be from outside the association. This step is part of the KFA's efforts to normalize operations and rebuild trust, following recent changes in 대한체육회 (Korea Sport & Olympic Committee) regulations regarding election processes. The board also approved an increase in player allowances for national teams, doubling the daily stipend for both male and female players to 200,000 won.
