South Korea in talks to send emergency relief team to flood-hit Nepal

South Korea is actively engaged in discussions with Nepal to provide emergency relief following the severe flooding that has impacted the region.

The South Korean government has conveyed its strong intention to support Nepal with an emergency relief team and is currently in talks with Nepalese authorities. "The government is actively communicating its willingness to support Nepal with our emergency relief team and is proceeding with discussions," stated a Foreign Ministry official. "If Nepal accepts, we are fully prepared to deploy the team at any time."

Reports from Nepalese media indicated that Nepal had agreed to accept assistance from four countries, including South Korea, India, China, and Australia, for specific areas such as tunnel rescue, DNA testing, and forensic examination. However, the South Korean Foreign Ministry clarified that while discussions are ongoing, there have been no new developments regarding the acceptance of foreign relief teams.

Currently, a South Korean rapid response team is stationed in Kathmandu, awaiting clearance from the Nepalese military to operate helicopters. This team, along with personnel from Doosan Enerbility and Korea South-East Power, has chartered six helicopters and is on standby. One helicopter from Korea South-East Power was deployed alongside a Nepalese military helicopter for rescue operations on the previous day. The rapid response team is working to secure approval from Nepalese authorities to deploy their helicopters on the current day.
