South Korea Men's Volleyball Falls to Indonesia 0-3 in AVC Cup Final, Finishes Runner-Up

The South Korean men's volleyball team suffered a disappointing 0-3 defeat against Indonesia in the final of the 2026 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup, settling for the silver medal. This outcome represents a continued struggle for the team to regain its former standing, having previously finished third in 2023 and fourth in 2024.

Under the guidance of coach Isanaye Ramirez, the Korean team lost in straight sets (32-34, 16-25, 23-25) to the Indonesian squad in Ahmedabad, India. The loss was particularly surprising given Korea's previous 3-0 victory over Indonesia in the group stage just six days prior. The team's performance throughout the tournament, including an unexpected 2-3 loss to Thailand in their opening group match, failed to meet expectations.

While acknowledging the absence of key players like Jeong Ji-seok and Heo Su-bong, the team's performance in the final was notably lackluster. The first set was a grueling affair, with Korea leading 19-15 mid-set but ultimately losing 32-34 after a series of deuces and errors. This loss seemed to carry over into the second set, where Korea was decisively beaten 16-25. Despite a late surge in the third set, they ultimately fell 23-25, sealing their fate.

Despite strong individual performances, including 15 points from opposite spiker Shin Ho-jin and 12 points each from Jeong Han-yong and Im Jae-young, the team could not overcome the deficit. The AVC Cup result leaves the men's national team with significant challenges to address as they prepare for the Asian Men's Championship and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games later this year.
