South Korea Ministry: We Will Consistently Pursue Peace on Peninsula

South Korea's Unification Ministry affirmed its commitment to a consistent policy of peace and coexistence on the Korean Peninsula, despite recent criticisms from North Korea. The statement came in response to remarks made by Kim Yo Jong, a senior official in the North Korean Workers' Party and sister of leader Kim Jong Un.

The government will consistently pursue the Korean Peninsula peace and coexistence policy without wavering, regardless of any difficult situation.

Kim Yo Jong had issued a statement on Monday denouncing the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) joint military exercises conducted by South Korea and the United States. She criticized the drills, calling them a rehearsal for invasion and expressing anger over their scale and scope.

In its official response, the Unification Ministry emphasized that the South Korean government will not be swayed by difficult situations and will steadfastly implement its peace and coexistence policy. The ministry urged North Korea to accurately understand Seoul's intentions for peace and to participate in the journey toward transforming the unstable armistice system into a lasting peace regime.
