South Korea Mourns Passing of Former Lawmaker and Other Figures

The Hankyoreh newspaper has published a list of recent deaths, marking the passing of several notable South Koreans. Among them is Jang Jae-sik, a former member of the National Assembly, whose passing was announced on May 28. He is survived by his wife, Choi Woo-sook, and his children Ha-jun, Yeon-hee, and Ha-seok.

Also listed is Kim Dong-ho, whose death was reported on May 31. His sons, Young-bin and Yeon-song, and his son-in-law, Nam Jeong-seok, a department head at Sports Chosun, are mentioned. Funeral services for Mr. Kim are scheduled for June 2.

The obituaries also include Kim Soon-ja, mother of SBS Bureau Chief and Deputy Director Heo Yoon-sil and Heo Seok, and mother-in-law to Kim Eun-jung and Professor Lee Seong-deok of Chung-Ang University's Law School. Her funeral is set for June 1.

Lee Nam-yul passed away on May 29, survived by his wife, Kim Hee-jung, and children Kyung-hwa and Kyung-eun. His grandchildren and son-in-law, Kim Bong-soo, a team leader at HS Hyosung, are also listed. The funeral will be held on June 1.

Lastly, the notice includes the passing of Lee Seok-soon, mother of Professor Choi Hyung-wook of Hanyang University's Chinese Language and Literature Department and Lee Yang-wook, CEO of Mr. Holmes Real Estate. Her funeral is scheduled for June 1.
