South Korea's June Exports Hit Record High, Semiconductors Lead Surge

South Korea's exports surged to a record $62 billion in the first 20 days of June, marking the highest performance for the period in history. This significant growth was largely driven by a dramatic 188.4% increase in semiconductor exports, which reached $25.5 billion and constituted 41.2% of the total exports.

The strong performance in semiconductors, alongside increases in passenger cars, petroleum products, and computer peripherals, propelled the overall export figures. Key trading partners like China, the United States, and Vietnam saw substantial export growth from South Korea. Exports to China rose by 86.9%, to the U.S. by 53.9%, and to Vietnam by 75.5%.

Imports also saw a considerable rise of 23.2% to $44.5 billion, with semiconductors, crude oil, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment leading the increase. Despite the rise in imports, the trade balance remained strongly in surplus, reaching $17.5 billion. This marks a significant rebound and record achievement for South Korean trade in the early part of June.
