South Korea to Boost Modular Tech for Faster Housing Supply

South Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Kim Hyun-sook, announced plans to bolster modular construction technology to speed up the delivery of good-quality homes. Speaking at a meeting with modular home manufacturers in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, Kim emphasized that modular technology, with its systematic process management, can be a key breakthrough for rapidly supplying high-quality housing unaffected by external factors.

The minister's visit aimed to encourage progress on a pilot project by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) in Uiwang Chopyeong, which focuses on scaling up modular homes for high-rise and large-scale buildings. Modular construction involves assembling major building components in a factory before transporting them to the site for final assembly. This method offers significant advantages, including a 20-30% reduction in construction time compared to traditional methods and enhanced safety due to fewer high-altitude tasks.
