South Korea: Upcoming Forums, Welfare Awards, and Environmental Events

Woljeongsa Temple, in collaboration with the Asian Conference of Religious Peace and the Great Transition Forum, is set to host the '2026 Odaesan World Religious Peace Forum' on May 30th. Under the theme 'An Era of War, Dialogue Among Odaesan World Religious Scholars,' the forum will delve into how religions have been mobilized in historical conflicts and examine their contemporary responsibilities in promoting peace.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is actively seeking nominations for the '24th Seoul Welfare Award,' with the submission deadline set for June 24th. This award aims to identify and honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the development of welfare communities. Categories include welfare volunteers, welfare sponsors, and welfare professionals.

In line with the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22nd, the Korea Forest Service is organizing the 'Steps to Save Forests' event, running until May 31st. Participants are encouraged to walk 5.22 kilometers at national and public arboretums and gardens across the country to reflect on the importance of biodiversity and ecosystem preservation.

Additionally, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held an 'Open Government International Event' on May 22nd in Seoul. This event brought together international organizations, foreign governments, and civil society to discuss the future of public governance, including a symposium commemorating South Korea's 30th anniversary of joining the OECD and a public-private international forum.

Korea Coca-Cola presented approximately 120 million won in scholarships to 40 young individuals at its '2026 Coca-Cola Scholarship Awards Ceremony' on May 23rd. The recipients were selected across five categories: leadership, social integration, environment, diversity, and sports, in partnership with organizations like the Myal Foundation and the Environmental Foundation.
