South Korean banks ramp up second-half hiring as competition heats up for aspiring financiers

South Korea's major banks have opened their second-half recruitment campaigns, intensifying competition among young people seeking careers in finance. Woori Bank, IBK Industrial Bank of Korea, KB Kookmin Bank and NH NongHyup Bank are moving sequentially to hire new employees, while Hana Bank and Shinhan Bank are still reviewing their schedules and recruitment numbers.

The hiring market could become even tighter as artificial intelligence spreads through the banking industry. That prospect is raising pressure on aspiring financial workers, who face fewer openings and stronger competition.

Woori Bank moved first among the major banks. It has accepted applications through its recruitment website from Aug. 27 through Sept. 8, seeking candidates for corporate banking, personal banking, technology, global and specialist positions.

The bank has also expanded its Woori Together track, which is open to applicants eligible for social consideration. A Woori Bank official said, "We plan to hire creative and innovative talent with the right character."
