South Korean defender Seol Young-woo joins Augsburg on four-year deal

South Korean national team defender Seol Young-woo has officially joined German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg, signing a four-year contract that runs until June 30, 2030. The move sees the 28-year-old defender transition from Serbian club Red Star Belgrade to the competitive German league.

Augsburg announced the signing on their official website, stating that Seol's arrival will bolster their flank attack. He has been assigned the number 7 jersey. While the transfer fee was not officially disclosed, local media reports suggest it is in the region of 5.5 million euros, including potential add-ons. The deal also includes a clause that grants Red Star Belgrade 10% of any future transfer fee if Seol moves to another club.

This transfer makes Seol Young-woo the fourth South Korean player to don the Augsburg jersey, following in the footsteps of Koo Ja-cheol, Ji Dong-won, and Hong Jeong-ho. His move also signifies a significant step in his career, as he enters one of Europe's top five leagues just two years after leaving K League 1 side Ulsan HD in 2024.

During his two seasons with Red Star Belgrade, Seol was a key player, primarily as a right-back. He made 101 official appearances for the club, contributing 8 goals and 16 assists. His performances in Serbia have now earned him a place in one of Europe's most prominent football leagues.
