South Korean Groups Organize Peace Trip to Vietnam for Binh Hoa Massacre Anniversary

A group of South Korean civic organizations is inviting the public to join a peace trip to Vietnam to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Binh Hoa massacre. The massacre, which occurred in December 1966 during the Vietnam War, resulted in the deaths of 430 civilians at the hands of South Korea's Blue Dragon military unit.

The trip, organized by the Korea-Vietnam Peace Foundation, the Institute for Korean Historical Truths, the Citizens' Peace Forum, and the People's Solidarity for Participatory Self-Government, is scheduled from November 30 to December 4. Participants will attend a memorial ceremony hosted by the local People's Committee in Binh Hoa village, Quang Ngai province, where a monument to the massacre stands.

Beyond the main commemoration, the itinerary includes visits to the Da Nang Museum and the My Lai Museum. Participants will also pay respects at the memorial sites in Phong Nhi and Ha My, other locations where atrocities occurred during the war. The organizers are seeking 60 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, with the application deadline set for November 13.

The Korea-Vietnam Peace Foundation stated that the trip is intended as a journey of remembrance and solidarity with the survivors of the massacre. A portion of the participation fee will be donated to support the Binh Hoa memorial ceremony, symbolizing a gesture of peace. The total cost for the 4-night, 5-day trip is 1.7 million won.
