South Korean Lawmaker Ahn Calls Pro-Han Factions 'Yeouido Tow Trucks,' Urges Exclusion

Ahn Cheol-soo, a lawmaker from South Korea's People Power Party, has intensified his criticism of factions supporting Han Dong-hoon, labeling them "Yeouido tow trucks" and urging them to be excluded if Han forms a new party. Ahn's remarks, made on Facebook on Monday, followed his public opposition on July 12 to Han Dong-hoon's potential return to the party. Ahn described the reactions from Han's allies as "outrageous," accusing them of resorting to personal attacks and baseless rumors instead of addressing the core issue of his testimony. He expressed dismay that individuals claiming to represent Han were attacking fellow party members and fabricating narratives about who instigated Ahn's press conference. Ahn advised Han to distance himself from these individuals, stating that he has seen many supporters turn away due to the aggressive tactics of these "tow trucks." He warned that such behavior could ultimately lead Han into a "death trap." Ahn suggested that Han should instead align himself with those who quietly supported other candidates without seeking personal gain. He concluded by stating that as long as these "tow trucks" surround Han, the resentment from those harmed by them could undermine Han's political future. Ahn's recent comments stem from a legal testimony he provided regarding the December 12 martial law period, where he claimed Han, then party leader, instructed party members to gather at the party headquarters instead of the National Assembly. Han has contested the accuracy of this testimony, leading to the ongoing public dispute.
