South Korean man arrested for drunk driving, fleeing accident, and setting vehicle on fire

Police in Yeongdong, South Korea, have arrested a man in his 50s on suspicion of drunk driving and fleeing the scene of an accident, only to later set his own vehicle ablaze. The suspect, identified only as 'A', was apprehended on charges including arson of his own vehicle and causing injury while fleeing an accident.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on March 25, when 'A' was driving a 1-ton truck under the influence of alcohol. He collided with a passenger car driven by 'B' at an intersection in Simcheon-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, and then fled the scene without providing aid.

Following his escape, 'A' drove his truck to a rural road in Bonggok-ri, Yangsan-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, where he reportedly set the vehicle on fire around 2 p.m. He was arrested as a 현행범 (in the act). Authorities confirmed that his blood alcohol concentration was at a level requiring license revocation.

Police are currently investigating the full details of the incident and will determine whether to seek an arrest warrant for 'A'.
