South Korean politician questions timing of Seoul City Hall raid during election voting

Jang Dong-hyuk, a leader of the People Power Party in South Korea, has raised questions about the timing of a police raid on Seoul City Hall. The raid took place on the very day early voting began for local elections, prompting Jang to question whether the event was a coincidence or a pre-planned political act.

Speaking at a campaign rally for a mayoral candidate in Sejong, Jang stated, "We must investigate incidents related to people's lives strictly and swiftly." However, he immediately followed this by asking, "Is this a coincidence, or was it planned in advance?" This rhetorical question implies suspicion that the raid was timed to influence the ongoing election.

Jang drew parallels to past investigations, referencing "three special prosecutors launched under the Lee Jae-myung administration." He alleged that these investigations were "always carried out at their convenience to cover up political issues." This historical context fuels his current suspicion regarding the Seoul City Hall raid.

He further stressed that "the laws of the Republic of Korea seem to be strict for some people and not for others." This statement suggests a belief in selective enforcement of justice. Jang urged the public to "punish them with your votes" if they perceive political intent behind such actions, framing the raid within the broader context of political maneuvering and the upcoming elections.
