South Korean President Lee Arrives in Paris as Talks with Macron on Hormuz Draw Attention

President Lee Jae-myung arrived in Paris on Sept. 7, moving to the second stop of his state visit to France after departing from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport.

Lee received a formal welcome at Orly Airport, where he greeted those present and shook hands with them one by one. French officials waiting for him included Climate and Environment Minister Monique Barbut, Val-de-Marne Prefect Stéphane Daguen, Foreign Ministry protocol chief Alexis Hidd and French Ambassador to South Korea Philippe Bertoux. South Korean ambassadors to France, the OECD and UNESCO also attended the reception.

Lee will spend two days in Paris from Sept. 8. He is scheduled to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe and attend an official welcoming ceremony hosted by the French government.

The president will then have a private luncheon with Emmanuel Macron before holding a summit. The talks are expected to focus on cooperation in advanced technology, culture and exchanges between people. Security cooperation in the Strait of Hormuz is also drawing attention as a possible subject of the meeting.
