South Korean Ruling Party Lawmakers Visit Reopened Homeplus Store

Lawmakers from South Korea's ruling party visited a Homeplus store on Tuesday, a month after its reopening, to show solidarity and support for the struggling retail giant. The visit, which included shopping at the store, aimed to acknowledge the difficulties faced by various stakeholders during its prolonged closure.

Han Byung-do, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, addressed the attendees, stating, "The workers and their families, tenants, suppliers, and the company itself have gone through immense hardship." He added, "We were able to reopen with one heart and one mind."

Yu Dong-soo, the Secretary-General of the Democratic Party, expressed optimism about the company's future, noting that Homeplus's rehabilitation process is proceeding smoothly. The lawmakers' visit underscores the government's attention to the retail sector and its efforts to support businesses undergoing restructuring.
