Spain expects 100 million tourists this year

Spain is poised to surpass the symbolic milestone of 100 million foreign tourists this year, a projection made by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Tourism. This follows a record-breaking 2025, which saw 96.8 million visitors, marking a 3.2% rise from the prior year.

The nation, currently the world's second most visited country after France, is leveraging the geopolitical climate in the Middle East to attract more travelers. Officials anticipate reaching the 100 million mark if current trends persist, describing it as a "natural outcome."

Economically, the Spanish government forecasts that tourists will inject 64 billion euros into the economy between June and September. This represents a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2025, reinforcing tourism's critical role in the country's economic growth.

An estimated 43 million international tourists are expected between June and September, a 6% increase year-over-year. This surge is attributed, in part, to geopolitical uncertainties surrounding conflicts in the Middle East, which are driving demand for European destinations. The unrest has reportedly diverted some travelers from regional destinations, increasing interest in southern Mediterranean countries like Spain.
