Spanish activist filmed giving Nazi salute at anti-migrant protest

A Spanish activist, Isabel Peralta, has resurfaced in public debate after being filmed performing a Nazi salute during a protest in Madrid. The demonstration, held outside the Moroccan embassy, was organized by the Spanish Phalanx party and nationalist movements against the recent influx of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.

The footage, widely shared on social media, has drawn condemnation, including from French officials. Peralta has a documented history of expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler, having previously gained public attention in February 2021 during a tribute to the Blue Division, a unit of Spanish volunteers who fought alongside Nazi Germany on the Russian front during World War II.

This latest incident occurred on July 31, the same day the Madrid Superior Court of Justice confirmed Peralta's one-year prison sentence. The conviction, handed down the previous year, was for inciting discrimination and hatred, stemming from another rally held in front of the same embassy.

The protest against the migrant influx followed a surge of tens of thousands of migrants into Ceuta, an autonomous Spanish city bordering Morocco, triggering a new migration crisis between the two countries. The demonstration's organizers, including the Spanish Phalanx party, mobilized against what they termed an "invader."
