Spanish Church Becomes Lego's Largest Building Set Yet

To mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi, Lego is launching its biggest building set to date, measured by the number of bricks. The set is a model of Gaudi's masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona.

Containing a total of 12,060 pieces, this new set is part of the Lego Architecture series, which features famous buildings from around the world. "Our goal was to honor Gaudi's vision with the greatest respect by capturing the church's construction pace, its extraordinary complexity and ambition, and translating this into an immersive building experience," said Rok Zgalin Kobe, the set's designer, in a Lego press release.

In addition to the building's many spires, Lego has also attempted to recreate the stained-glass windows that give the church its unique interior light. The instruction manual is reportedly designed to mirror the long and arduous process of constructing the actual church. Work on the Sagrada Familia began in 1882 and is still ongoing, though assembling the Lego set is expected to be considerably faster.

The set costs 6100 Danish kroner and is available for pre-order starting Friday, with deliveries beginning in November.
