Spanish football culture arrives in Taiwan with Formosa 7s youth tournament

A wave of Spanish football fervor, inspired by their 2026 World Cup victory, has reached Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with the conclusion of the "2026 Formosa 7s International Youth Football Championship." The five-day tournament, hosted by Powin Health Enterprise, brought together top youth teams from Hong Kong, Japan, Spain, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam at the Kaohsiung Municipal Nanzi Football Field.

The U16 championship match was a highlight, featuring a thrilling penalty shootout between two La Liga professional club youth academies: Villarreal CF and Getafe CF. After a hard-fought 1-1 draw in regulation time, Getafe CF emerged victorious with a 7-6 win in the penalty shootout, capping off the prestigious football event.

Local teams also showcased strong performances, with Kaohsiung Attackers FC, nurtured by Spanish youth training systems, reaching the finals in several age groups. Their U8 team secured third place, while the U14 squad narrowly lost the championship 3-4 on penalties, demonstrating the effectiveness of Powin's long-term investment in Spanish youth training methods.

Another notable presence was the Hong Kong Boas FC U10 Girls team, whose all-female lineup impressed with their confidence and skill.
