The tiny village of Avellanosa de Muñó, in Spain's northern Burgos province, is usually characterized by its quiet, uneventful rhythm of life. With no restaurants or shops, and only a handful of residents, the village experiences minimal human activity, often marked only by the weekly arrival of a bakery van or the distant hum of a tractor.

However, this tranquil setting is set to transform into one of the planet's most fascinating locations on August 12, 2026. Avellanosa de Muñó lies directly in the path of a total solar eclipse, an event not visible from mainland Europe since 1999 and from peninsular Spain since 1912.

What makes this village particularly attractive for eclipse viewing is its pristine landscape. Golden wheat fields and low hills stretch towards a wide western horizon, offering an unobstructed view with scarce light pollution and minimal crowds, unlike more popular viewing sites.
