Spider-Man film breaks box office records in North America

The latest installment in the Spider-Man franchise, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," has swung to the top of the box office, setting a new record for opening weekend ticket sales in the United States and Canada. The film generated an impressive $360 million, surpassing the previous record holder, "Avengers: Endgame," which debuted in 2019. This monumental success solidifies Spider-Man's enduring popularity among global audiences.

While "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has claimed the top spot for opening weekend revenue, "Avengers: Endgame" still holds the record when ticket sales are adjusted for inflation. Nevertheless, the new film's performance is historic, with a worldwide gross of $932 million during its opening weekend alone. This figure represents the second-highest global opening in cinematic history, trailing only "Avengers: Endgame's" $1.2 billion debut.

The film features Tom Holland in his fourth portrayal of Peter Parker, who finds himself in a world where his identity as Spider-Man is no longer remembered. As he navigates rebuilding his relationship with MJ, played by Zendaya, Spider-Man confronts a new threat to New York City. Notably, Holland and Zendaya, who first met during the filming of "Spider-Man: Homecoming" in 2017, are now married in real life.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has also achieved significant success domestically, setting a new record for the biggest opening weekend in Danish cinemas this year. The film drew 158,163 viewers from its July 29 opening to August 2, significantly outperforming other major releases like "The Odyssey," which attracted 82,157 viewers during its opening days.
