Sony and Marvel's latest superhero epic, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' starring Tom Holland, has shattered box office expectations, earning a staggering $355 million in its North American debut. This monumental opening ranks as the second-biggest in domestic box office history, narrowly trailing 'Avengers: Endgame's' $357 million debut from 2019, according to industry estimates.

The film, which sees Peter Parker grappling with isolation and new threats after erasing his identity, has already amassed an additional $573 million internationally. This brings its global total to an astonishing $928 million, highlighting the character's enduring worldwide appeal. "Overseas business should be more than 60% of the worldwide total, with good news already coming out of China (a rarity now)," noted analyst David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.

"This is a colossal opening," Gross stated, attributing the film's success partly to a nine-week drought of major action titles during the summer. "The market is ripe-ripe-ripe for this film." The success of 'Spider-Man' has significantly boosted the box office, which is also seeing strong performances from other major releases. Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' secured second place with $51 million, bringing its domestic total to nearly $400 million. Disney-Pixar's 'Toy Story 5' and Universal's 'Minions & Monsters' rounded out the top four, earning $6.3 million and $5.8 million, respectively.
