Sports Council and police enter handball stadium through protesters after 95-day blockade

The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee entered Seoul’s Olympic Park Handball Stadium with police assistance on the 95th day of a blockade protest linked to a ballot shortage during the June 3 local elections.

Committee officials arrived at the stadium’s Gates 2-3 with police at about 9 a.m. Some protesters objected to the police presence. At 9:13 a.m., officers removed tents set up in front of the gates, allowing the group to enter.

The officials went inside to remove work materials, quickly packing computers, electronic equipment, work files, administrative papers, accounting and contract documents, event-operation supplies, and materials connected to national team training and competition participation.

Nine member sports organizations based in the handball stadium had been unable to access their offices normally for more than three months because restrictions on entry continued.
