Sports Journalists Association Slams Football Club's Dismissal Warning for Spokesperson

The Croatian Sports Journalists Association (HZN) has sharply criticized Aleksandra Vegh, president of the NK Osijek football club, for her decision to issue a warning of dismissal to long-time club spokesperson Mario Mihić.

When you mention the Football Club Osijek, which names first come to mind? Probably Davor Šuker? Maybe Nenad Bjelica? But certainly Mario Mihić Miha. Colleague, journalist, spokesperson, good spirit of the club, icon, constant and a man who is trusted and loves NK Osijek.

HZN deems the decision "completely unfounded," particularly the reasoning that Mihić worked against the club's interests. The association highlighted Mihić's long-standing contributions and deep connection to NK Osijek, describing him as a "colleague, journalist, spokesperson, good spirit of the club, icon, constant, and a man who is trusted and loves NK Osijek." Mihić has received numerous awards and a special recognition from HZN for his press service in 2022.

"We are told that Miha allegedly worked against the club's interests. That's like telling someone the sea has stopped being salty. In other words, it's impossible," HZN stated in its release. The association urged the club to reconsider its decision, emphasizing that while they cannot dictate employment in a private club, the accusation against Mihić is "so absurd that it cannot be more absurd or worse." The statement concluded by questioning the significance of Aleksandra Vegh's name in relation to NK Osijek.

In response to the situation, approximately 300 NK Osijek fans gathered outside Opus Arena on Wednesday evening to protest and show their support for Mario Mihić.
