Sri Lanka President Reviews Aid Project for Fishermen Affected by DITWA Disaster

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has reviewed the progress of a significant project aimed at aiding fishermen impacted by the DITWA disaster. The initiative, backed by 189 million rupees, focuses on providing essential equipment like boats and fishing nets to help the community recover.

The President's review also encompassed plans for the reconstruction of the damaged fishing harbor, a critical step in restoring the economic stability of the affected fishing communities. This effort is part of a broader program to revitalize the livelihoods of those dependent on the sea.

The discussion took place at the Presidential Secretariat during a meeting to review the implementation of projects funded by the 2026 budget allocations for the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Marine Resources. The President also sought updates on proposals for the upcoming 2027 budget.

Officials provided a comprehensive overview of the progress made by various institutions under the ministry, including the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the National Aquaculture Development Authority, and the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation. The review covered both recurrent and capital expenditures for 2026.
