Sri Lankan Law Students Win International Moot Court Competition in Germany

A team of three law students from the University of Colombo has achieved a significant international victory, clinching the championship title at the 14th Nuremberg Moot Court Competition held in Germany. The prestigious competition, which simulates international criminal trials, saw participation from 137 countries.

The Sri Lankan team, comprising second-year law undergraduates Gevindu Pitiduwa Gamage, Saman Nassar, and Sahani Methsarani, triumphed over the University of New South Wales' law student team from Australia in the final round. The competition took place in Court Room 600, the historic venue where the trials against Nazi war criminals were held after World War II, presided over by international criminal court judges.

Adding to the team's success, Saman Nassar was awarded the title of the most eloquent speaker, further highlighting the exceptional talent and preparation of the University of Colombo's law students. Buthmini Mohotti served as the team's advisor.

The team returned to Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on July 28, bringing home the championship trophy and international acclaim. This victory marks a proud moment for Sri Lanka's legal education sector, showcasing the capabilities of its students on a global stage.
