Stabbed Actor Rob Reiner Receives Emmy Posthumously

Rob Reiner’s name drew a standing ovation at Los Angeles’s Peacock Theater after the filmmaker and actor received an Emmy posthumously for his guest appearance in the dramedy series “The Bear.”

Reiner and his wife, film producer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their home in the Los Angeles suburb of Brentwood on Dec. 14, 2025. Reiner, 78, and his wife, 70, had suffered multiple stab wounds. Their daughter, Romy, found them.

Police arrested the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, hours later and accused him of murder under aggravated circumstances. He was formally charged in August. If convicted, he could receive life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty. He has pleaded not guilty.

Rob and Nick Reiner worked together on the 2015 semi-autobiographical film “Being Charlie,” which drew on aspects of their relationship and experiences. The film follows the son of a governor as he struggles with addiction and moves in and out of treatment. Nick Reiner had spoken openly about his own problems with substance abuse and mental illness.

The article also notes that, according to the Los Angeles Times, Nick Reiner had received medication for schizophrenia shortly before the killings. The New York Times reported that he had been under a guardianship arrangement from 2020 for one year.

Rob Reiner directed the Oscar-nominated drama “A Few Good Men” and the romantic comedy “When Harry Met Sally,” where he met Michele Singer Reiner. The couple later had three children, Romy, Nick and Jack. Before marrying Michele, Rob Reiner had been married to actor Penny Marshall, whose daughter he adopted.
