Stage collapses during flood relief distribution in Bangladesh; no injuries reported

A stage collapsed during a flood relief distribution program in Chandanaish, Chattogram, Bangladesh, briefly disrupting the event. The incident occurred around 11:30 am at the Dohazari municipality while essential relief items were being distributed to flood-affected families.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, and several other political leaders were present on the stage when it collapsed. Eyewitnesses and local officials reported that an excessive number of local leaders, activists, and guests climbed onto the stage after the finance minister arrived, leading to the structure's failure.

Although there was some disorder during the relief distribution, the situation returned to normal within a short time.

Despite the fall, no injuries were reported among those on the stage, including the minister and other MPs present. Sub-inspector Rupok Karmakar of Chandanaish Police Station noted that the stage was not very high, which prevented a major accident. Chandanaish Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abdur Rahman confirmed that one side of the small stage tilted due to overcrowding, causing a slight jolt.

The relief distribution, which included 10kg of rice and approximately 20kg of other food items per package, resumed shortly after the incident. The Chattogram district administration distributed aid to 250 families, while the local lawmaker provided assistance to an additional 2,000 families.

Those on the stage felt a slight jolt. A few people then stepped down, and the rest of the relief distribution was completed without further incident.
