The stage play "A Cheat Sheet for the Wedding" has captivated audiences in Taipei with its poignant exploration of family dynamics during a wedding. The production, starring Li Tien-chu, Kuo Tzu-chien, Yao Kun-chun, and Cheng Yu-hsi, has been met with widespread praise, with audiences describing the experience as moving from laughter to tears.

For Cheng Yu-hsi, who portrays the bride, the premiere was a daunting challenge. She admitted to sleepless nights and physical discomfort leading up to the performances. However, drawing inspiration from the theater's ability to connect with audiences, she learned to embrace the moment. "Theater is very cruel; you can't redo it, you can only keep acting," she shared, quoting the play's director, Huang Chih-kai. The play delves into the complexities of blended families as the bride navigates wedding preparations amidst conflicting opinions from her biological father, adoptive father, and divorced parents. These preparations, from invitations to seating arrangements, become life lessons for the family. The father-daughter relationship depicted resonated deeply with Cheng Yu-hsi, reminding her of her own childhood experiences of parental love amidst financial hardship.

Li Tien-chu, playing the biological father, fulfills a personal wish through his character's wedding scenes, as his own daughter did not have a formal wedding. Kuo Tzu-chien incorporates his own grief into his portrayal of the adoptive father, whose character faces a similar dilemma of balancing family care with his daughter's wedding, drawing from his experience of his mother's passing.

Director Huang Chih-kai described the play's core as an "exam," where the intricate wedding planning becomes a series of life's tests. The production aims to foster understanding of the unspoken love between the characters, allowing their complex emotions to be seen and acknowledged.
