Stan Wawrinka bids emotional farewell to Roland-Garros after first-round exit

Stan Wawrinka's final Roland-Garros match ended in a first-round defeat, bringing an emotional close to his storied career at the tournament. The 41-year-old Swiss star, a three-time Grand Slam champion and the 2015 French Open victor, lost to Dutch qualifier Jesper de Jong 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on the Simonne-Mathieu court.

Despite the loss, Wawrinka expressed that it was the "right decision" to retire. The tournament organizers honored him with a commemorative trophy and a video montage featuring tributes from tennis legends like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Gaël Monfils. The crowd at Roland-Garros showed their support for "Stan the Man," who was playing his 21st appearance at the Paris major.
