Starring Bad Bunny, Residente Begins Filming His First Movie

Residente has begun filming PORTO RICO, his first movie, with Bad Bunny in the leading cast and a production team that includes several internationally known actors.

The Puerto Rican artist, whose real name is René Pérez, announced the start of filming in an Instagram story. He posted an image of the clapperboard showing that the first scene was being filmed.

Residente is directing the movie with cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle, known for his work on Slumdog Millionaire and Snowden. The cast includes Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton and Javier Bardem alongside Bad Bunny.

The film was co-written by Residente and Oscar-winning screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris, who wrote Birdman. Residente previously said he had dreamed of making a film about Puerto Rico since childhood, describing PORTO RICO as a Caribbean western inspired by real events. He also said the island’s true history had long been surrounded by controversy.
